Does Hardships Make a Person Stronger?

Can hardships make you a stronger or better person? Should you embrace hardships or avoid them as much as possible?

Adversity causes some folks to become better while others develop a bit of bitterness. The response changes from one person to the next. It’s a bit difficult to tell where some of the world’s most successful people would be if they hadn’t faced hardships.

Does everybody need hardships to become stronger?

Scientists and psychologists have conducted various studies to determine the impact of adversity on people’s lives. This topic of discussion is interesting on many levels. For example, it helps us learn why some people wilt under intense pressure in their lives. It gives us an insight impact of adversity in one’s life too.

Stop playing by the rules and find what You are passionate about!

Globally, some people grow in poverty, which is a form of hardship. Interestingly, they continue in hardship (read poverty) even in their adulthood. In that case, how has the hardship made them stronger or better?

You would expect such people to then help their families out of poverty and live differently from the way they did as children.

Additionally, some sports people face hardships in the form of career-threatening injuries. A significant number of them then recover and become better – probably buoyed by the chance to play or compete again. However, others never attain the levels they were in prior to the injury.

These examples show us that some people become better from hardships while others don’t.

Hardships strengthen coping mechanisms

Hardships sharpen your coping mechanisms. They make you more adept at handling similar hardships – or worse ones – should they arise.

Without these hardships, you probably wouldn’t know what to do in case you faced adversity. People who have never faced adversities often develop a poor ability to cope.

Hardships give you the experience to handle anything that happens in your life.

The adversity helps you to think optimally. They enable you to build the resilience needed to go through the severest situations without losing your mind. How you respond to the challenges depends on your perception of everything that happens. You could decide to take an optimistic approach and determine never to allow anything else to put you down.

Alternatively, you may say that such a life is not for you and decide to keep to yourself.

Hardships make you excellent encouragers

People who have faced hardships are able to encourage and inspire others who find themselves in similar situations.

The biggest encouragers are people who have been in the doldrums or down in the pit struggling to breathe. Such individuals are able to attract the respect of others, especially if they made better decisions and choices afterward.

What does religion say about hardships?

“Trials of the world are all heaven’s pearls” is an often used Christian sentence to comfort the suffering, meaning that there is reverse relation between the sufferings in this life and in the afterlife. From the Philokalia:

“Humility and ascetic hardship free a man from all sin, for the one cuts out the passions of the soul, the other those of the body. It is for this reason that the Lord says: ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God’ (Matt. 5:8).

Buddha taught many ways to overcome hardships from the idea that suffering is a basic fact of life. To end suffering he suggested his followers to live by the rules of the eight-fold path.

How to Find Meaning in Life?

What does life mean?

What is the essence of life?

Most people – if not all – around the world have asked over the years.

How do you find meaning in what we know as life?

Finding meaning in life is all about making the most of it. Everybody can find and live a meaningful life as long as you are still able to breathe and make choices.

As a human, you still have the power to make decisions and choose what you want from life.

All the tips you will learn to encourage you to embrace the freedom you have to choose.

How can you find meaning in life?

Not playing by the rules

We have all witnessed how society expects us to live. Go through school, get a job or career, get married, settle down in your family and get children. Those are some of life’s unwritten rules. However, you should strive to live by your own rules.

Stop playing by the rules and find what You are passionate about!

Do not allow others to dictate the kind of life to live. Do not allow others to dictate what constitutes a good or worthy life to you. Rip the rulebook apart and start living by the rules you deem suitable for you.

Leave the comfort zone

The comfort zone can hinder you from accomplishing a lot in your life. The comfort zone refers to your fear of trying stuff that challenges you. It means the fear you have for the unknown. The fear you have of failing is a hindrance.

Leave the comfort zone and go for challenges!

Fear of losing control is a limiting factor too. Staying within your comfort zone can lead to boredom and a lot of meaninglessness. Embrace a bit of adventurism. Try something new. Go out, be bold, and forget monotonous living.

Focus on whatever brings you joy

Do you love sports? Do you love traveling? Are you passionate about reading and writing?

Do you love helping others or spending more time with other people? Focus on activities that give you unmatched joy.

Finding your joy means being willing to try new things. It means a willingness to put an end to the monotonous life you have lived all along. Find things that give you purpose in life.

Focus on things that put meaning in your life.

Stop ignoring your intuition

Intuition can help you find the much-desired meaning in your life. Your intuition and the inner-self have a solid connection. Intuition can help you stop leaving in superficiality, which is both soulless and short-term.

Your intuition helps the inner you to come out and take charge. It helps you to focus on the important stuff in life.

Intuition will guide you whenever you have a decision or choice to make.

Does Fate Exist?

To some people, fate is nothing more than a fantasy. Others swear and live by it. Those who believe in it, conduct their affairs fully aware that they will reap what they sow. Many people believe that fate always takes its own course. This latter group believes that fate has a mind of its own. Hearing what the different sides say about fate may leave you feeling more confused though.

Let’s try to answer this question.

Does fate exist? Is fate a real thing? What is fate, in the first place?

Fate refers to how things progress outside of your control. It refers to the path that your life takes despite the best choices and decisions you make. Fate is the work of a supernatural power or force in your life. It’s something pre-destined to happen and which you have no control over. It is just how your life turns out regardless of your actions. It is an end that nobody saw coming.

A few examples would suffice to help provide a better understanding of fate. Let’s consider sports, football in particular. In the UEFA Champions League final of 2005 between Liverpool and AC Milan, the Italian side was better than Liverpool in terms of experience and technical abilities. In the first half, AC Milan led 3-0 and Liverpool seemed dead and buried. By the end of the night, Liverpool would be crowned champions though. Some put it down to fate.

Have you heard or read of a homeless man winning a lottery and living well once again?

What about a grandmother renting a house to a tenant who later marries her grandson?

Abraham Lincoln lost many times in life only to be elected the United States’ 16th president.

There are countless examples that show fate is real. Talk to your friends and you will be left wondering if they are where they are because of fate. To many people, life doesn’t turn out exactly how they envisioned it. It takes a path of its own. Fate isn’t something you can explain. It goes beyond conscious awareness. It represents quantum uncertainty. The question worth asking though is, if we believe in fate, what does that say about our free will?

If fate will do whatever it wants, does that nullify our choices and decisions?

Does fate make us helpless in life? Does it make us its prisoners?

Fate has a hint of inevitability to it.

Fate is inexplicable.

Fate is beyond comprehension.

Fate just happens.

Fate is unknowable, moderate and extreme in equal measure.

Fate exists.
